Sep19It’s a boy!

It’s a strange feeling, returning to work after 2 weeks off - and coming back on a Wednesday still feels like a Monday.

An even stranger feeling is coming back to work after being off for two weeks because you have become a parent!

My son, Michael Leslie Orriss, was born at 6:04am on 5th September 2007.

I am full of gratitude to Dan, who was insistent that I took the fortnight’s paternity leave to get to know the new arrival. It was worth every minute.

But now I have to settle back into a “normal” routine, which seems unreal - especially knowing who I will have waiting for me when I get home!

My boy!

Sep19Widget Ahoy!!

Not one for sitting back on our achievements, at OC Vision we decided to look at different mediums for content delivery.

Already providing our clients with RSS Feeds, Podcast Delivery and E-Blogging functionality as well as working on mobile/PDA versions of some of our sites, we decided to give that a break while we investigated our very own Dashboard Widgets.

Down in Weymouth, for the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta its blowing 30 knots - providing some great action on the water, viewed from the media office - where OC Vision have set up camp!

Sep13Join the E.ON 100 Day Challenge.

Ellen has been helping E.ON with the launch of their 100 day challenge, a scheme for businesses to spend 100days working at reducing the amount of energy they use.
We’ve started with the little things - do we need to have the lights on all day (we have a lot of windows!) and the printer on all night when we aren’t here? You’d be surprised how these small changes can save a lot of energy!

We’re hoping that the people who learn about these small differences at work will also take the ideas home.

You can find out more on Ellen’s personal blog http://blog.ellenmacarthur.com, or at the E.ON site http://www.eonenergy.com/ellen

Here’s some of the things Ellen has been doing herself…

“So many times, I have heard people saying ‘we know we have to do something, but what can actually be done!’ Well this project is about actually telling people that, and helping them to understand the changes that they can make, usually simple, and which often don’t have to cost a penny. I’ve started doing simple things like printing 2 pages on 1 sheet of A4, always printing on the back…. Some people say that the text is too small, but I rarely hear people complaining about the size of text in a newspaper. It not only saves paper, but you carry less around with you, you use less printer ink, it prints more quickly – just seems sensible to me!”

Sep13Virtual stadium for Olympic Regatta

As website designers and developers for the Sail for Gold Regatta, we are gearing up to provide on site support and advice during the event in Weymouth next week. The multi media rich website provides the platform for live event radio, TV and tracking. The RYA hope that the site will provide a legacy for future Pre-Olympic events in the run up to London 2012.
